Spanish born Ricardo and his English wife Valerie are, undoubtedly, one of the most experienced duo’s in Spain. Ricardo found fame in the 60’s with two guitarist vocalists who became Los Zafiros. This trio not only toured Europe playing to crowned heads of many European countries but appeared before Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 2nd in 2 Royal Variety Perfomances. They also appeared in a televised Christmas special on the Morecombe and Wise show. For many years Los Zafiros headlined at all the theatres in the UK with their unusual act, at that time, of bringing a Spanish influence to popular songs sang in both English and Spanish accompanying themselves on acoustic guitars.
Ricardo met Valerie whilst appearing at a theatre in Newcastle. They married and settled in Madrid, where Ricardo was famous in his own right as a flamenco singer and guitarist.
These days Valerie provides the keyboard accompaniment to Ricardo’s vocals and guitar playing. He sounds very much like Julio Iglesius. Don’t be fooled into thinking all his songs are Spanish, he does a great cover of Tom Jones’ Sex Bomb.
